What you will do
We have a vacancy for an Area Engineer based in Warrington, reporting to the Operations Manager.
In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of roadside electronic signage and traffic technology equipment. You will support service delivery across customer sites, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual timescales.
You will work both independently and alongside other engineers, maintaining strong customer relationships while ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and professionalism. The role includes participation in out-of-hours call-out rotas, occasional night and weekend work, and travel to sites where overnight stays may be required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing, commissioning, and maintaining roadside electronic signage and traffic technology equipment
- Responding to faults and completing repairs within contract timescales
- Carrying out routine maintenance in line with planned schedules
- Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures
- Maintaining accurate documentation and site records
- Building strong working relationships with customers and stakeholders
- Promoting best practice in installation, maintenance, and fault-finding techniques
- Supporting project delivery and assisting Project Managers where required
- Identifying and communicating potential sales opportunities
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Carry out installation and commissioning activities on customer sites
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
- Diagnose and repair equipment faults
- Complete site documentation accurately and within required timescales
- Liaise professionally with customers and internal teams
- Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in serviceable condition
- Represent SWARCO in a professional and customer-focused manner
You may also:
- Work nights and weekends where required
- Participate in weekday and weekend call-out rotas
- Travel to sites requiring overnight stays (accommodation provided)
- Support colleagues and wider operational teams as needed
What we are looking for
• Electrical / Electronics qualifications
• Relevant experience in a similar maintenance or engineering role (minimum 3 years preferred)
• Experience with electronic signage, traffic signals, barrier equipment, or vehicle detection systems
• Mechanical aptitude and strong fault-finding ability
• Good electrical and practical technical knowledge
• Experience working on highways (desirable)
• Strong organisation skills and ability to work independently
• Good IT skills
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure
• Proactive, structured, and well-organised approach
• Full UK driving licence
• Understanding and adherence to Health & Safety policies
