What you will do
The ITS Roadside Technician is vital to the uptime of Ireland’s intelligent infrastructure. By maintaining a sophisticated network of equipment and communication systems, this role directly supports and enhances public safety. In 2026, these technicians are the backbone of our evolving transport landscape.

 

You will also:

  • Installation & Configuration: Physically install and configure ITS field devices such as CCTV cameras, variable message signs (VMS), vehicle detection sensors, and other roadside equipment.
  • Diagnostics & Repair: Use specialized software and hardware to troubleshoot and fix malfunctioning equipment
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, test software/firmware updates, and replace aging components (e.g., solar battery banks for LED signs) to prevent system downtime.
  • Network Management: Install and maintain critical network components, including network switches, routers, and broadband radios, to ensure reliable data flow to traffic management centres.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in rotational on-call duties to respond to roadside equipment emergencies during nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict safety standards lifts.
  • Ensure accuracy of all fault records data recorded on Fault Management System.
  • Ensure new project work installations are of a high standard and safe working practices are followed whilst working on site.
  • Provide technical support to customers and Trainee's.
  • Competently liaise with both customer & SDM to discuss problems, issues, programme of works etc.
  • To be aware of individual contract requirements.
  • To ensure that any project paperwork is accurate and returned in a timely manner.
  • To ensure that ISO 45001 is being adhered to.
  • To ensure that all working practices are in accordance with the SWARCO ISO 9001 & 14001 Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental management systems at all times.
  • To ensure that all PPE appropriate to the task and in line with the RAMS is being correctly worn.
  • Ensure your vehicle, tools, spares, and equipment to be used are in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • To be available to attend training courses and toolbox talks, whether they are locally or nationally based.
  • KPI Adherence for maintenance activities, assist a Senior Technician if required on completion of project works ensuring a successful switch on of any new installations.
  • To assist with the on-site development of apprentices.

 

What we are looking for

  • Understanding of IP networks and their configuration.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications in particular MS Excel essential.
  • Experience working with fibre optic networks (OTDR/ILM testing & fusion splicing).
  • Experience of working on the roadside including associated Health & Safety procedures.
  • Practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Controls, and Instrumentation as a Communications Technician or similar preferably with a technical background.
  • Understanding of IP networks and their configuration.
  • Ability to work on own

  • Full driving licence
