Description

Software Developer (TMS)

We are looking for an experienced software developer to join our team to help support and deliver our industry-leading Traffic Management System (TMS).

The initial focus of this role is the development and improvement of our TMS product. This manages and controls traffic in many cities in the UK and abroad. The software is mainly written in Pascal, with some C, so experience of these or similar languages would be beneficial. TMS runs on the OpenVMS operating system on clustered servers in our data centre. Therefore, experience of OpenVMS and clustering would be desirable but not essential, as training and support will be provided.

You should also be able to perform code reviews and provide helpful feedback to other team members. You should have experience with TCP, UDP, SNMP, HTTP and other standard protocols for data exchange. Previous experience with traffic or other real-time systems is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Computer Science 2:1 or above, or equivalent qualifications or experience. Experience of working on collaborative software projects (either professionally, academically or as part of an open-source community) is helpful.

We are looking for a candidate with some experience but a willingness to learn more, an ability to tackle new problems without giving up, and who can work well within a small team.
